Sony has rolled out PS4 system software update 12.50, the patch notes for which are brief and vague, but those who’ve been keeping up with the PS4 modding community will know what the update is all about. The new firmware improves usability, but also likely patches exploits that allow users to jailbreak or mod the console. The PS4 has already been jailbroken, but the exploits only work on older versions.
PS4 system software update 12.50 patch notes (March 24/25, 2025)
“We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens,” the official changelog reads. No other information was provided. PS4’s last system software update released in January, with Sony plugging security vulnerabilities.
Although Sony is starting to wind down support for PS4, don’t expect the company to give up on security patches. Earlier this month, one such firmware update rolled out for the PS3, requiring players to update their consoles to continue using its blu-ray drive. Considering that the PS4 still has a pretty massive community and equally massive library of games, it’s unlikely that Sony will give up battling hackers just yet.
Sony has also rolled out a new PS5 system software update for March, which we’ve covered separately. More on that in our previous article.
