Andy Murray is ‘highly unlikely’ to join Emma Raducanu’s coaching team for Wimbledon after his split with Novak Djokovic, according to reports.

Murray and Djokovic ended their six-month partnership on Tuesday less than two weeks before the French Open gets underway in Paris.

Attentions have already turned to who Murray may decide to coach next and it’s no secret British fans would love him to team up with Raducanu.

But The Telegraph have now reported that a Murray-Raducanu ‘dream team’ is probably not going to happen ahead of this year’s Championships.

That’s because Mark Petchey – who has been working as Raducanu’s part-time coach since the Miami Open in March – has made himself available on a full-time basis for the entire grass-court swing this season.

Petchey has so far been unable to become Raducanu’s full-time coach because of his significant broadcasting roles for various outlets.

Petchey works as a tennis commentator and analyst for the likes of Amazon Prime, ITV, the BBC, the Tennis Channel and Tennis Australia.

For this summer’s grass-court tournaments, though, Petchey will have no other commitments to distract him and will focus on coaching Raducanu.

It highly suggests a Murray-Raducanu partnership appears to be off the table for now – but it also doesn’t mean that it’s never going to happen.

There have been rumours of lingering ill feeling between Murray andRaducanu after she withdrew from the Wimbledon mixed doubles last year but this is not the case and has nothing to do with her Petchey decision.

Raducanu confirmed at the Australian Open this year that she has patched things up with Murray and she has always had a tremendous amount of respect for the British tennis legend, who retired after the Paris Olympics.

Murray, speaking in 2022, named Raducanu as one of four players that he would one day be interested in coaching and one day it could well happen.

Raducanu arguably remains the biggest active name in British tennis after her historic Grand Slam triumph at the 2021 US Open as a qualifier.

The 22-year-old still hasn’t landed a second title anywhere on the WTA Tour since clinching the trophy at Flushing Meadows, which would surely make her an exciting project for Murray given her level of ability and potential.

It remains to be seen if Murray will step into a new coaching role following his split with Djokovic or if he will take some time away from the sport.

It’s possible that Murray could decide to take a punt on a lesser known British star, like 18-year-old Charlie Robertson, who he singled out for praise at Wimbledon last year.

Speaking exclusively to Metro about the state of British tennis, Murray said: ‘Yeah I think it’s looking positive – there are a few, new British players coming through.

‘I hit with Charlie Robertson, who is from Dundee, and watched one of his matches at Queens. He’s a really nice guy and I would say he’s a player to watch – I think he’s got a bright future ahead of him.’
