Punchestown 1:25 Concept Colours Rated Novice Chase – 2m (5yo+) We start proceedings off with an interesting novice chase. Release The Beast and Spring De La Mare come here on the back of wins at Limerick and Fairyhouse, respectively, and both have obvious chances of following up here. At the same time, Rath Gual Boy adds another interesting dimension to the line-up on his chase debut. But it may be worth giving WATERFORD WHISPERS one more chance today. Last season’s Martin Pipe Novices’ Hurdle second has been well-backed for both his chase starts but has been somewhat disappointing over longer trips. The drop-down in trip today should do him no harm, and with the rain that has fallen over the weekend, conditions look set to be perfect for him. It’s still early days over fences for Waterford Whispers, and it’s only a matter of time before things click for him, and today can be that day. Selection: Waterford Whispers Danger: Spring De La Mare Bet on Waterford Whispers with talkSPORT BET Punchestown 1:55 QuinnBet Beginners Chase – 2m6½f (5yo+) This looks set to be between the two Willie Mullins-trained High Class Heros and Loughlynn. They both met on chase debut at this track, with High Class Heros finishing ten lengths in front of his stablemate. But, bar two awkward jumps at the final two fences, LOUGHLYNN would have been much closer in the finish. Loughlynn has since gone on to run well behind Three Card Brag in Navan, where three miles seemed to stretch his stamina. The drop-down in trip should help here, and with those experiences under his belt, this big imposing chaser may be able to get the better of his High Class Hero today. Selection: Loughlynn Danger: High Class Hero Bet on Loughlynn with Sky Bet Punchestown 2:25 Listed QuinnBet Grand National Trial Handicap Chase – 3m3f (5yo+) It’s great to see a good turnout for the QuinnBet Grand National Trial Handicap Chase today, with eight runners from the Thyestes Chase looking set to face off once again. VELVET ELVIS may be burdened with top weight here, but the Gavin Cromwell-trained gelding had many of these well behind him when finishing a clear second in the Thyestes Chase last month. We know he handles these conditions, and with the extra three furlongs looking set to be a positive (finished 6th in the 2022 Irish Grand National over 3m5f) for Velvet Elvis, he can make up for his Thyestes Chase second and take another big prize for the shrood Gavin Cromwell stable. If the addition of cheekpieces has the desired effect with Macs Charm, then he can be one that has the ability to outrun his odds. Selection: Velvet Elvis 5/1 (e/w) Danger: Macs Charm 18/1 Bet on Velvet Elvis with Paddy Power Punchestown 2:55 Listed Madigan Group Irish EBF Sheila Bourke Novice Hurdle – 2m (4yo+) Even though he comes in here still a maiden over hurdles, it would be disappointing if WILLIAM MUNNY couldn’t get off the mark today. He has finished second to Supreme Novices’ Hurdle hopeful Workahead and Kawaboomga, but this does, on paper, look easier than his two previous assignments. The Great Nudie was a good winner from the front over further here last time out, and if the drop-down in trip doesn’t inconvenience him, he can step forward again. There isn’t much separating C’Est Ta Chance and Taponthego on their meeting at Navan when behind James’s Gate, but the Willie Mullins-trained C’Est Ta Chance should be able to confirm those placings with Taponthego and chase home William Munny. Selection: William Munny 8/11 Danger: C’Est Ta Chance 10/3 Bet on William Munny with Midnite Punchestown 2:25 Grade 3 BetVictor Quevega Mares Hurdle – 2m4f (4yo+) Despite giving lumps of weight away on her season return, this race revolves around JADE DE GRUGY. A Grade 1 novice winner in mares company last season, this is where Jade De Grugy will lay down her marker for the Mares Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in three weeks. Her form from last season is a standout here, and her winning this is likely to decide which race Lossiemouth will run in at the Cheltenham Festival. Gaoth Chuil comes here on the back of a massive run at the Dublin Racing Festival in a handicap hurdle and can be the one to follow Jade De Grugy home. Selection: Jade De Grugy Danger: Gaoth Chuil Bet on Jade De Grugy with talkSPORT BET Puncestown 3:55 Kilkea Castle Hotel & Golf Resort Maiden Hurdle – 2m3f (4yo+) This looks like a typical Irish maiden hurdle, where there are three separate races for the price of one. The main one to concentrate on here is DR EGGMAN. The Willie Mullins seven-year-old has failed to get off
