Ryan Gosling has received three Oscar nominations to date, for his roles in Half Nelson, La La Land, and Barbie, but which performance is the best?
Some people might take Ryan Gosling for granted at this point, given he shows up in all sorts of movies and is consistently compelling as an actor, but if you take a step back and actually look at his filmography to date, the variety is remarkable. Also, despite his seeming ubiquity, his body of work as far as movies are concerned leans more toward quality over quantity. His first film role was in the early 2000s (he’d appeared on TV before then, including in The Mickey Mouse Club as a child actor), and since the early 2000s, he hasn’t really been in more than one film a year, on average. But still, he’s seemingly done it all, including gritty arthouse films (like Drive and Only God Forgives), massive sci-fi movies (Blade Runner 2049), comedies (like The Nice Guys), and romance films (like The Notebook and Blue Valentine). He hasn't done a superhero movie yet, perhaps surprisingly, but is going to star in an upcoming Star Wars film, which has got to count for something.
