Alan Shearer leaves Rest Is Football midway through recording after cheeky dig at daughter’s boyfriend

Alan Shearer had people to see, places to be and pints to drink. Midway through the latest episode of The Rest Is Football, Shearer departed the show and left host Gary Lineker and Micah Richards. After the trio had discussed Crystal Palace’s impressive 3-0 win over Aston Villa to progress to the FA Cup final, Lineker informed Shearer his work on the episode was done. “Happy travels, Alan,” Lineker said. Shearer replied: “Cheers boys, thank you. Have a good night, I’m off to have a few more.” That’s because Shearer was off to rejoin his family and celebrate his son, Will, completing the London Marathon on Sunday. Will ran in support of the Alan Shearer Foundation, which helps over 5,000 members and their families access life-enhancing therapies and activities at the Alan Shearer Centre in Newcastle completely free of charge. Shearer remarked it was his first time watching the event in person and it certainly left a lasting impression on him. “I have to say, it’s unbelievable,” Shearer said. “The atmosphere and the coming together of everyone, honestly, everyone is just so happy.” Shearer and his family stopped off at the halfway mark and mile 24 to watch the action and support Will. @willshearer9 - InstagramThe Shearer family were all smiles after Will completed the London Marathon[/caption] However, the day had not been without drama for the Newcastle legend. That’s because the boyfriend of his eldest daughter, Chloe, had a nightmare journey getting to London. Chloe’s boyfriend is former Newcastle Falcons scrum-half Micky Young and he planned to travel down to the capital on the train after Newcastle United’s 3-0 win over Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon. But, as Shearer explained on the podcast, it was far from a straightforward train trip. “He got to the train station and got there five minutes early,” Shearer said. “He got on the train and then after 15 minutes on the train, he heard the announcement: ‘Welcome to everyone who’s got on this train to Edinburgh’. @alanshearer - InstagramWill (right) ran the gruelling race to raise funds for the Alan Shearer Foundation[/caption] “It was non-stop, all the way to Edinburgh! He’s had to go from Newcastle to Edinburgh and that’s the last train. He looked at different modes of transport, flights, cars.” But there was one option Young still had at his disposal. “He got on the f****** megabus,” Shearer said. “The 10 o’clock megabus, which cost him 30 quid, from Edinbrugh to London. He got in at 6:45 this morning. “I said to him, ‘And you are meant to be looking after my f****** daughter in the future!” Shearer’s cheeky quip had Richards and Lineker in stitches. The Newcastle legend added his son celebrated his epic feat with a number of thoroughly deserved pints and that there were more to come that evening.
