April is one of the most beautiful months in Prague — because it’s when the cherry blossoms burst into bloom. It’s one of the most blissful times to visit this city.
After spending most of February and March traveling, I was delighted to spend an entire month within the city of Prague. It wasn’t very exciting — but it was exactly what I needed.

Highlights
Cherry blossom season. It’s so fleeting and such a beautiful time to be in Prague. I love how my neighborhood is particularly awash in cherry blossoms!
Hosting Easter dinner in Prague. Charlie and I had several friends over, and we had a lovely day. Klara made vitello tonnato, Charlie made roasted lamb and mashed potatoes, and I made dessert (more on that below).
Really bonding with the cats this month. Charlie is Lewis’s human, and he usually just thinks I’m “the lady,” but this month Charlie went on a business trip and we got to bond and cuddle together.
And now Murray and I have bonded to a point where he sleeps against me every night, for at least a bit. I think I’m officially Murray’s human now.
Celebrating two years of marriage. Charlie and I spent our anniversary at one of our favorite Prague restaurants, Aromi, eating one of our favorite dishes, their truffle pasta.
My first vintage-fashion-by-the-kilo sale. I ended up getting a Valentino jacket and a Max Mara blazer for just 55 EUR, as well as a not-Hermès-but-clearly-Hermès-inspired scarf that felt gloriously silky for just 5 EUR. It was amazing what was just hanging out on the racks!
Both of them are a bit big for me, so I might get them tailored down — or sell them for a reasonable price, as larger clothes are often tough to find in Europe.
Challenges
Not much bad happened this month, other than some boring business stuff that was more annoying than anything else.
We did take the cats for an outside visit for the first time ever, taking them out onto our neighborhood square in their carriers, with them on leashes and one door open. Before today, they only went outside to go to the vet.
And the cats…were terrified the whole time. Hid in the corner of their carriers, eventually got up the nerve to turn around and look at everything around them. Lewis hissed at a little dog that got too close; Murray didn’t even want to go after the birds.
So we do want to take them outside again…but I hope they are less scared.
I’m still getting physiotherapy for the hip injury I’ve been dealing with, and it’s been taking a bit longer than expected to get my baseline level of mobility back. Sometimes it’s almost there; sometimes it feels frozen. I’m grateful there is no more pain, though.

Most Popular Reel on Instagram
This month, I got my fifth million-view Instagram reel, and my first-ever million-view TikTok!
It’s about my prediction for where the four season of The White Lotus will take place — and of course, I embarrassingly pronounced the town wrong, which might be why it went so viral!! You can watch it on Instagram or on TikTok.

What I Cooked This Month
This month, I got a Le Creuset Petal Braiser, which I saw and immediately thought it was the most beautiful pan I’ve ever seen. They are pricey, but they can last decades, and I intend to use mine forever.
Mine is in the berry color that isn’t currently available in the US, but several other beautiful colors are!
So far I’ve cooked several focaccias, chicken piccata, pasta sauces, a cacio e pepe Dutch baby, chicken cutlets. And for Easter, I baked a giant skillet chocolate chip cookie for my friends to share.
I used this recipe from NYT Cooking (gifted link), and it came out SO good (though I did use half milk chocolate and half dark chocolate, which I think makes a great mix). Nothing like a melty-in-the-center cookie to finish a special meal!
What I Watched This Month
This month, my two big recommendations are “go in knowing as little about it as possible” recommendations.
For TV, I was obsessed with Paradise. If you have a This is Us-shaped hole in your heart, you need to watch this — it has the same showrunner (Dan Fogelman), same star (Sterling K. Brown), and even the same composer (Siddhartha Kosla), which adds to the atmosphere.
Sterling K. Brown plays the lead Secret Service agent for the U.S. President, who has been murdered. And then the show goes in an unexpected direction.
And for movies, I absolutely loved Sinners. Directed by Ryan Coogler and starring not one but two Michael B. Jordans (something I will never complain about, ever), it’s a period piece set in the Mississippi Delta in 1932 — and goes in some truly wild directions.
This is technically a horror movie — but if you’re a scaredy-cat like me, don’t let that keep you away. There are no jumpscares; it’s more of an action movie. I even walked home alone at night after seeing it with no issues.
(And because I handled Sinners so well, a few days later, I decided to watch Us for the first time. Now THAT is a truly scary film! I couldn’t sleep for days!!!)
What I Listened To This Month
I’m listening to all 500 of Rolling Stone‘s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, which I am enjoying immensely. I am loving discovering new artists and listening to albums I’ve somehow missed my entire life until now!
In April, I listened to albums 400-373. Here are the highlights:
Favorite Discovery: In Rainbows by Radiohead. This album was famously the world’s first pay-what-you-wish album by a major artist, released in 2007, but I had no idea how beautiful an album it was. I’ve never really listened to Radiohead; I’ve only heard their songs here and there. But this is so LIGHT and PRETTY and FULL OF STRINGS. God, I love strings. Give me all the strings.
I also have to give a shout-out to Brian Wilson Presents “Smile” by Brian Wilson for being such a complex, unexpected album. There is so much lore behind this album I won’t go into — but think The Beach Boys, only darker, more mature, and mixed up in a carnival. I had to listen to it twice to really get it, but WHAT A RIDE.
Other Favorite Discoveries: Diana by Diana Ross; Something/Anything? by Todd Rundgren; Young, Gifted and Black by Aretha Franklin; Kaleidoscope by Kelis; When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? by Billie Eilish.
Favorite Revisited Album: The Emancipation of Mimi by Mariah Carey. This was Mariah’s big comeback album when it came out in 2005 — and honestly, it’s damn close to PERFECT. Mariah’s inimitable voice, Jermaine Dupri’s production, some of the best songs of the era, wrapped up in love, heartbreak, and empowerment. It also doesn’t sound dated at all.
Honorary mention to Black Messiah by D’Angelo and the VanGuard, an album I’ve listened to regularly since it came out in 2014. D’Angelo hadn’t released an album since 2000’s Voodoo, and since then he nearly died in a car accident and decided to learn to play guitar from scratch for his next album. And the album is SO good. Dark. Fierce. Romantic.
Favorite Songs: “Maps” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, “The Moment” by Tame Impala, “New Romantics” by Taylor Swift, “Ghetto Children” by Kelis, “Stay the Night” by Mariah Carey, “Weird Fishes / Arpeggi” by Radiohead.
Get the playlist: I’m creating a playlist of my favorite songs from the 500 albums — maximum one per album — on Spotify. You can listen to it here.
Lowlight of the Month: Moving Pictures by Rush. I did not get this album, nor the sound of the band, at all. It sounded…almost like a joke?! Probably best to say that I am not the target audience.
Random Thoughts: My favorite song of the month was “Maps” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, which I had heard every now and then but never really listened to closely. Oddly, I could not stand most of the album until that song.
And some fun facts: Kelis and Juvenile both have songs called “Ghetto Children.” Taylor Swift and Todd Rundgren both have songs called “Slut.” And apparently multiple songs about Kokomo exist, because Aretha Franklin has one called “First Snow in Kokomo.”
Coming Up in May 2025
This month will nearly entirely be spent in Prague as well. Toward the end of the month, Charlie and I are throwing a party for Charlie’s 50th birthday and our second anniversary, and we will be welcoming lots of friends and family to our city.
At the end of the month, my friend Cailin and I will be heading to Kraków, Poland, for a few days. I visited Kraków back in 2016 and absolutely fell in love with the city. I hope it’s as good as I remember.
What are your plans for May? Share away!
