Aintree Grand National 2025 Tips – Day 2 race rundown and predictions
The Grade 1s keep on coming at Aintree on Friday and we have some top class action again. Jonbon is looking to put that Cheltenham blip behind him and defend his Melling Chase crown and Supreme third Romeo Coolio is looking to get Elliott out the doldrums and confirm form over Salvator Mundi and co. Caldwell Potter is back with the big boys after impressing at Cheltenham but Handstands will have something to say about that having defeated subsequent Arkle winner Jango Baie at Sandown when last seen. This Festival continues to deliver! I have analysed all 7 races in detail on Day 2 and hopefully we can add to those winners from yesterday and continue to make it a profitable 3 days. He made a bad mistake and actually did well to come through late for second. This track is much more to his liking and he obviously justified strong support to win this last year. He only has the three rivals to beat and if his jumping holds up he is definitely the most likely winner as the betting is suggesting. He handles quicker ground perfectly fine and is hard to pick holes in. El Fabiolo has clashed with Jonbon a few times in the past going down a neck over hurdles here three years ago. He thrashed him in the Arkle but then struggled beaten four lengths at Sandown last year. He fell at the Dublin Racing Festival on return and then was turned over at cramped odds at Navan last time. He could still be a danger but he has a lot to prove most notably in the jumping department. If he does get round I still think Jonbon will have his measure and the fact he is second favourite tells you about the lack of strength in this year’s renewal. Melling Chase trends 10 of the last 11 winners were aged between 7 and 9 6 of the last 11 winners were favourites or joint favourites 2 of the last 11 winners won on their last run before 10 of the last 11 winners were rated 161 or higher 2 JONBON Trainer: Nicky Henderson Jockey: Nico de Boinville Form: 1-11121-111211-11211-1112 Age: 9yo Weight: 11-10 Bet on Jonbon to win the Melling Chase at 8/15 with bet365 Topham Chase tips I always love watching the Topham as we get to see them over the Grand National fences for the first time. This race has been a bit of a lottery in recent years with some big prices going in. As you can see from the trends there has been no winning favourites in the past 11 years which looks quite significant. I’ve decided to take a chance on one at a huge price in the shape of GRANDEUR D’AME for Alan King. This horse is certainly capable on a going day and he showed that being agonisingly denied at Cheltenham on Trials Day. He wasn’t disgraced finishing midfield in the Ultima and if he takes to these fences he could run much better than his price suggests. Plenty in with chances in a race of this nature and of those towards the top of the market Bad does catch the eye. Things have really clicked for him the last twice winning impressively at Kempton and then following up gamely at that venue again last time. He isn’t the biggest horse but if he takes to this discipline he could have a chance. The Goffer was a good fourth behind Stumptown in the Cross Country last month and is another one I can see getting competitive. Topham Chase trends 8 of the last 11 winners were aged between 7 and 10 None of the last 11 winners were favourites or joint favourites 9 of the last 11 winners carried 11 stone 2 lbs or less 2 of the last 11 winners won on their last run before 19 GRANDEUR D’AME Trainer: Alan King Jockey: Tom Cannon Form: 1265-1326-371155-14UPU-15212 Age: 9yo Weight: 10-8 Bet on Grandeur D’ame to win the Topham Chase at 22/1 with Betfred Mildmay Novices’ Chase tips I like the way Ben Pauling has campaigned HANDSTANDS and coming here fresh having skipped Cheltenham could be the difference. After falling on chase debut at Wincanton he hasn’t put a foot wrong winning his last 3 starts. He beat subsequent Arkle hero Jango Baie at Sandown when last seen and showed a great attitude to prevail on that occasion. He is obviously still unexposed so cou
