Manchester United are hoping to avoid going five Premier League games without a win when they travel down to AFC Bournemouth on Sunday.

The Red Devils, 14th in the table, have been in horrendous form in the top-flight and suffered a 1-0 defeat to Wolves at Old Trafford last time out.

Ruben Amorim’s side can save their disappointing season if they get their hands on the Europa League trophy – with United set to face Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals – but first they face a battle with the high-flying Cherries.

Bournemouth head into the game against United eighth in the table, with the south coast club dreaming of European qualification for the first time, having already secured their highest-ever Premier League points total.

United have a number of players ruled out with injury for the south coast clash including Lisandro Martinez (knee) and Joshua Zirkzee (thigh).

Amad Diallo, Ayden Heaven and Matthijs de Ligt (ankle/foot) are also set to miss out when United face Andoni Iraola’s side at the Vitality Stadium while there are question marks over Luke Shaw after he wasn’t named in the squad against Wolves.

There is a slight concern over Diogo Dalot after he wasn’t spotted in training on Wednesday morning but it’s safe to assume he’s been given extra time off and will be fit for duty ahead of Sunday’s televised fixture.

In more positive injury news, United youngster Toby Collyer could be set to make his return from a leg problem, while veteran defender Jonny Evans is also thought to be available for selection.

Amorim may decide to rest some players for the clash against Bournemouth – given his side take on Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final just four days later – and the fact that they have nothing left to play for in the Premier League this season other than pride.

Academy players Elyh Harrison, Dermott Mee, Jaydan Kamason, Tyler Fredricson, Dan Gore, Zachary Baumann, and Chido Obi all took part in training on Wednesday morning, with some expected to be in the squad against Bournemouth.

Amorim has strongly suggested that he will continue to pick striker Rasmus Hojlund in his starting XI, despite his struggles in front of goal.

The Cherries are hoping to complete a league double over United this term, having smashed them 3-0 at Old Trafford in December’s reverse fixture.

Bournemouth badly need three points against United having only registered one victory across their last eight top-flight matches.

They were held to a 0-0 draw against 10-man Crystal Palace last time out but did win their last home fixture, defeating Fulham 1-0 on April 14.

Cherries duo Ryan Christie and Enes Unal will miss the game against United through injury but Luis Sinisterra may return from a thigh issue.
