ACI APAC & Middle East donates US$50,000 to Myanmar earthquake victims; urges further support
The trade association has contributed to disaster logistics non-profit organisation Airlink to support humanitarian relief efforts in Myanmar following the recent devastating earthquake.
CHINA (HONG KONG)/MYANMAR. Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID) has contributed US$50,000 to disaster logistics non-profit organisation Airlink to support humanitarian relief efforts in Myanmar. It follows the recent devastating earthquake, which took the lives of more than 3,000 people.
In addition, ACI APAC & MID – which represents over 600 airports across 45 countries and territories – has urged its member airports and business partners to make individual contributions to the relief effort. It is driving this by launching a campaign among its members.
The trade association said funds raised through the campaign will enable Airlink to facilitate the rapid delivery of essential aid and responders to the affected regions in Myanmar. It will provide crucial support to communities grappling with the earthquake aftermath.
Airlink delivers critical aid to communities in crisis by providing free or discounted airlift and logistical solutions to vetted nonprofit partners, in doing so changing how the humanitarian community responds to disasters worldwide. Its network includes over 250 aid organisations and more than 50 commercial, cargo and charter airlines.
ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East President SGK Kishore said, “The devastation caused by the recent earthquake in Myanmar is truly heart-wrenching, and as an industry that connects people and communities, we believe it is our responsibility to stand in solidarity during times of crisis.
“This contribution of US$50,000 by ACI APAC & MID will hopefully incentivise broader support across our network. I urge all our member airports and industry partners to step forward and contribute to this critical humanitarian cause. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected.”
ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East Director General Stefano Baronci commented, “The value of our airports’ network can go beyond advocacy, capacity building and knowledge sharing to providing concrete support, especially in the least developed countries.”
Since its inception in 2010, Airlink has flown over 13,700 relief workers and transported nearly 17 million pounds of humanitarian cargo, directly helping over 60 million people impacted by natural and man-made disasters.
In 2025, Airlink is celebrating its 15th year in operation with a series of campaigns to support disaster response and expand its horizons.
