And he was a player-friendly Houston Rockets assistant coach when the University of Houston gave him a broken program that couldn’t even dream of the Final Four. Now, the No. 1-seed Coogs (35-4) have won 18 consecutive games and will face No. 1 Florida (35-4) in the national title game on Monday at the Alamodome in San Antonio. “No one ever loses at anything as long as you don’t quit,” Sampson said. “If you quit, you’ve lost.” Beating Duke (35-3) and expected NBA No. 1 draft pick Cooper Flagg were just the next items on Sampson’s endless hardwood to-do list. Sampson has spent more than a decade making the uncomfortable comfortable for Houston.
