5 games end in walk-off fashion in dramatic night for MLB

Tuesday night was full of drama across MLB.

Five games ended in walk-off fashion of the 13 games played, including two in extra innings and three via home runs.

Here is a recap of each walk-off win.

DETROIT — Javier Baez hit his second go-ahead, three-run homer in the 11th inning for his first multi-homer game in Detroit, lifting the Tigers to a 10-9 win over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.

The AL-leading Tigers were ahead in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings and lost the lead each time.

After falling behind in each of the two extra innings, they came back to win a second straight game against Boston and 10th in 13 games.

Kristian Campbell hit a two-run homer in the 11th and Greg Weissert (1-1) failed to keep a two-run lead. He allowed Jace Jung to hit a leadoff single and Baez to turn on a no-doubt shot to left.

Beau Brieske (1-1) picked up the win after giving up two runs — one earned — and one hit in the 11th.

Boston went up by a run in the 10th on Ceddanne Rafaela’s RBI groundout and Trey Sweeney’s two-out single in the home half of the inning made it 7-all.

Baez, who has revived his career this season after struggling the previous three seasons in Detroit, also had a three-run homer in the sixth.

HOUSTON — Isaac Paredes hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the ninth inning to lift the Houston Astros to a 2-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.

The game was tied at 1 after a home run by Jeremy Peña in the sixth inning when Paredes led off the bottom of the ninth against John Schreiber (1-2). He sent his second pitch to left-center field for his fifth homer this season, giving Houston the win after Kansas City took the series opener Monday.

Both teams got strong outings from their starters. Houston’s Framber Valdez allowed six hits and a run with seven strikeouts in eight innings. Kris Bubic yielded six hits and a run and tied a career high with nine strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.

Bryan Abreu (1-1) struck out one in a scoreless ninth for the win.

SAN DIEGO — Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a two-run 430-foot walk-off homer to centerfield to give the San Diego Padres a comeback 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night.

Tatis dropped the bat emphatically and watched the ball fly after he connected on a cutter against Angels closer Kenley Jansen (0-2), who took the loss.

Padres reliever Jason Adam (4-0) earned the win with a scoreless ninth.

Matthew Lugo hit a pinch-hit two-run homer in the seventh to give the Angels a 4-2 lead. Lugo’s homer followed an RBI double in the seventh by Jo Adell, igniting a three-run rally after the Angels had two outs and no baserunners.

Angels starter José Soriano gave up two unearned runs and four hits in seven innings.

Padres starter Dylan Cease pitched 6 2/3 innings, giving up two runs and five hits while striking out 10.

The Padres ended their two-game losing streak and finally beat the Angels, who had won their past four games over San Diego dating back to last season.

SEATTLE (AP) — J.P. Crawford hit an RBI single down the left-field line in the 11th inning as the Seattle Mariners ended their four-game losing streak by beating the New York Yankees 2-1 on Tuesday night.

With runners at the corners and nobody out, Crawford poked a single off Tim Hill (3-1) that just barely stayed fair to plate Leody Taveras and end a game in which both starting pitchers were brilliant.

Seattle reliever Casey Legumina (3-1) got the victory.

Bryan Woo tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings and was close to perfect while dueling New York left-hander Max Fried, whose 1.05 ERA entering the contest was the third-lowest in franchise history by a Yankee through his first eight starts in a season. The Seattle right-hander allowed just two Yankees hitters to reach second base.

Fried, meanwhile, was similarly stellar across five innings of one-run ball. The crafty lefty yielded only four hits, but one of them was an RBI double from Seattle catcher Cal Raleigh that easily could have been a two-run home run.

The Yankees tied it in the ninth on a fielder’s choice by Anthony Volpe.

CHICAGO — Nico Hoerner had an RBI single and Justin Turner followed with a two-run double, all in the ninth inning, as the Chicago Cubs rallied to beat the Miami Marlins 5-4 on Tuesday night.

Kyle Stowers hit a solo homer in the second and Connor Norby went deep in the seventh for the Marlins. Javier Sanoja knocked in a run with a ground out and Jesus Sanchez added an RBI single for Miami, which carried a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth.

Chicago’s comeback started when Hoerner hit a line drive to center that cut the deficit to one run. Two pitches later, pinch-hitter Turner doubled into the left field corner, scoring Vidal Bruján and Hoerner.

Pete Crow-Armstrong and Carson Kelly each had two hits for Chicago. Crow-Armstrong hit his 11th homer in the third inning.

Chris Flexen (1-0) allowed one hit over the final two innings and earned his first victory.

Miami’s Jesus Tinoco (2-1) blew the save opportunity, allowing two hits, three runs — two earned — and a walk while recording just one out in the ninth.
