This is the latest Bentley Flying Spur Speed, which Crewe bills as its first four-door supercar. It’s also the debut of the fourth-generation Flying Spur.

There’s bound to be confusion as it looks similar to the third-generation Flying Spur that first surfaced in 2009, but Bentley’s POV is that there’s enough under the skin to merit new-gen billing. In any case, the third-generation Flying Spur is still a class act and a unique proposition in 2025 – check out all three chapters of the limo in this photobook.

This is the same scenario as the latest Continental GT Speed, which also combines familiar design (with a few new and distinctive elements) with an all-new hybrid powertrain. Like its two-door sister, the latest Flying Spur debuts in performance flagship Speed form, sharing the same V8 hybrid system and fresh electrical architecture.

The Ultra Performance Hybrid all-wheel drive powertrain combines a 600 PS/800 Nm 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with a 190 PS electric motor integrated within the eight-speed dual clutch transmission. In Sport mode, total system output is 782 PS and 1,000 Nm. The benchmark century sprint is done in just 3.5 seconds. Bear in mind all that wood, leather and electronics within that limo shell.

Compared to the previous W12-powered Speed, the new FSS delivers higher torque from lower engine speeds, higher peak torque and higher power output throughout the rev range. Torque is up by over 11% (from 900 Nm) and with 19% more power (from 659 PS), we’re looking at the most powerful Bentley sedan ever created.

By the way, the V8 isn’t a carryover. With no traditional vacuum system and 350 bar fuel injection pressure (from 200 bar), it provides cleaner combustion and improved emissions. With the e-motor’s torque negating turbo lag, two single-scroll turbochargers have been used – this reduces complexity and allows them to run hotter, minimising emissions. No cylinder deactivation hardware is required, as the ICE can be switched off entirely when the e-motor is in charge.

And it does so very well. With 190 PS and 450 Nm, the FSS can waft silently in EV mode at speeds of up to 140 km/h, and with throttle applications of up to 75%. That’s more than enough for everyday driving, and with EV-only range of 76 km from the 25.9 kWh battery (five km less than the Conti GT Speed), this Flying Spur is effectively an EV in the city for bosses with short commutes.

As illustrated in our Continental GT Speed review, tycoons aren’t salesmen hustling around town, or workers with a daily commute from the suburbs. A more likely trip is from Damansara Heights to KLGCC for golf (10 km return, calculated from Aira on Batai) or perhaps tea and shopping at Pavilion/Starhill (less than 20 km return). Lunch meeting at BSC? 2.5 km away, sir. So, 76 km goes a long way; even longer when you have a fleet of cars.

The max AC charging rate is 11 kW, and the PHEV battery can be fully replenished in less than three hours. Together, the V8 and e-motor provide the new Flying Spur with a total range 829 km. By the way, there’s a charge mode, where the engine drives the wheels and charges the battery at the same time, so you can have emissions-free miles in the city centre, for instance.

Allied with the new hybrid powertrain is the Bentley Performance Active Chassis, which is a fancy name for an umbrella that covers Bentley Dynamic Ride (active anti-roll), all-wheel steering, an electronically-controlled limited slip differential and ESC with the latest software.

Those elements aren’t new, but with the PHEV battery at the back, the limo now boasts rear-biased weight distribution of 48.3:51.7, which Crewe says is a ‘mechanically-optimised’ setup. The system uses active torque vectoring via a centre differential, and precision vectoring across each axle with the brakes.

New twin-valve dampers enable rebound and compression damping to be separately controlled, and this creating a clear delineation of dynamics between Comfort, Bentley and Sport modes – simply put, bigger difference, with ‘significantly improved’ ride comfort in Comfort mode while maintaining the physics-defying level of body control in Sport. Mind you, the ride was already very supple.

Design wise, it’s what we’re familiar with from the third-generation Spur, with a new Speed-specific grille, front bumper and rear diffuser. The brightware is finished in dark tint while the Styling Specification aero package is now finished in body colour, although owners can opt for a carbon fibre finish. New LED welcome lamps project an animated version of the wings logo, and there’s a new 22-inch ‘Ten Swept Spoke’ wheel design.

The striking Tourmaline Green paint seen here is the launch colour for the new Continental GT Speed and Flying Spur Speed, but as always, there’s an unlimited combination of colours from the both the standard palette (101 colours) and Mulliner’s infinite possibilities.

For the interior, there are 22 primary hide colours, 11 secondary shades and four colour splits, which mean that in the leather department alone there are more than 700 colour combinations, before adding contrast stitching, piping or bespoke features such as your own crest or initials. Then, pick from eight wood veneer options and a further three technical finishes, which can also be paint-matched to any interior hide or exterior colour.

The cabin features all-new seat designs with 3D diamond quilting and a revised perforation pattern in the seat’s centre section, along with ‘Precision 3D’ diamond hide for the door cards. There’s a new Dark Chrome Specification option trim for the brightware, and this covers the door handles, switches, speaker grilles and other areas. New instrument graphics too, and we’ll never get tired of the Bentley Rotating Display carousel of 12.3-inch screen, three analogue dials and ‘digital detox’ veneer.

Finally, sound and comfort. At the base is a 650W 10-speaker system, while the Bang & Olufsen 1,500W 16-speaker system with illuminated speaker grilles would be a popular option. If you’re an audiophile, or if you only want the best, tick Naim – the 2,200 W, 19-speaker system has Active Bass Transducers built into the front seats and eight sound modes. By the way, laminated acoustic glass for the windscreen and side windows bring about a nine-decibel reduction in exterior noise.

The optional Wellness Seating Specification is now available on all four seats. It includes Seat Auto Climate and Postural Adjust, which measures and maintains the perfect body temperature via zoned heating and ventilation, and soothingly and seamlessly varies the pressure on the occupants’ muscles throughout their journey to ensure fatigue is minimised, Crewe says.

The air con now includes air ionisers, a new particulate matter filter and displays showing air quality outside and inside the vehicle. The system also synchronises with the car’s navigation, knowing when it might be necessary to improve cabin air quality, for example by auto recirculating cabin air when in a tunnel.

Pair your phone to the Bentley and you’ll be able to monitor the car’s charging status remotely, park or summon the limo remotely via the phone and turn on cabin pre-conditioning, among other things.

How much for the privilege? If you need to ask… Nope, even tycoons would want to know, and the 2025 Bentley Flying Spur Speed is expected to start from RM2.9 million before options and registration. This MSRP is with estimated import duty and excise/sales taxes at the current GBP-MYR exchange rate. The car you see here is a left-hand-drive unit touring the region as a showcase, and we understand from Bentley Kuala Lumpur that first deliveries are expected in June, alongside the new Continental GT Speed.
