2025 Audi A6 Avant, Sedan gain PHEV variants – e-hybrid quattro with up to 367 PS, 106 km EV-only range

Following the reveal of the sixth-generation (C9) Audi A6 in both Avant and Sedan body styles, the German automaker is now introducing the plug-in hybrid variants for both models. These cars carry the ‘e-hybrid quattro’ suffix and will be available in two power levels.

Both versions are based around a 2.0 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine with an output of 252 PS (248 hp or 185 kW) and an electric motor rated at 143 PS (141 hp or 105 kW), the latter integrated into the housing of the seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission. According to Audi, the e-hybrid quattro delivers a total system output of either 299 PS (295 hp or 220 kW) and 450 Nm or 367 PS (362 hp or 270 kW) and 500 Nm.

Unsurprisingly, the version with the higher output figures is quicker in a 0-100 km/h sprint, requiring just 5.3 seconds compared to the lesser alternative that needs six seconds. The top speed is identical for both at 250 km/h, with the electric-only top speed also the same at 140 km/h.

Audi also points out that battery used in the new A6 plug-in hybrid models has a higher gross energy capacity of 25.9 kWh (20.7 kWh net), which is roughly 45% more than the previous generation. As a result, the electric-only range of the e-hybrid quattro cars is up to 106 km. If the battery is completely empty, it takes 2.5 hours to get it back to 100% with a maximum AC input of 11 kW. Energy recuperation also gets an upgrade and can be adjusted using paddles on the steering wheel.

All A6 e-hybrid quattro models come standard with all-wheel steering which allows the rear wheels to turn up to five degrees in the opposite direction to the front wheels at speeds of up to roughly 60 km/h. This decreases the turning circle, making the vehicle more agile in city traffic and tight bends, while at medium and higher speeds, the rear wheels turn in the same direction.

Audi also says driving comfort has been improved from before thanks to 30% more sound isolation and more tightly sealed windows and optimised door seals. A tailgate seal on the Sedan also significantly reduces wind noise, while acoustic glazing is available as an option for the rear door windows as well as the front side windows.

Other improvements include newly developed engine and transmission mount bushings, reshaped and optimised transmission gear teeth as well as the implementation of foam rings inside the tyre to reduce air vibrations (applicable for wheels sized 19 inches and up).

The new A6 PHEV models are available to order from May 8, 2025, with deliveries set to commence in the summer. Pricing starts from 65,800 euros (about RM315k) in Germany for the A6 Sedan e-hybrid quattro, while the A6 Avant e-hybrid quattro is from 68,300 euros (RM327k).
