2024 – 2025 Honda ADV160 recall for US market

A US market recall notice has been issued for the 2024 and 2025 model year Honda ADV160 for a manufacturing defect. The recall is for defect in the oil pump driven gear combined with an improper finish on the timing sprocket which could cause abnormal gear wear, leading to engine seizure.

From the recall notice, this affects approximately 3,316 scooters in the US market. The defect arises from the steel timing gear receiving excessive shot blasting, with the polymer oil pump driven gear deformed due to the cooling process, leading to misaligned gears and eventual engine seizure.

Reports of this defect in other markets, beginning in Thailand and continuing into the US market were received by Honda. As of March 21, Honda says it has received a total of 28 warranty claims in the US related to this issue.

The recall, at no cost to the owner, will replace the oil pump driven gear with a more durable material, using a different mold structure to ensure its integrity. A check with Boon Siew Honda Malaysia confirms that no Malaysia market Honda ADV160s are affected by this recall notice.
