2 Chainz Announces Short Film 'Red Clay'
2 Chainz is officially venturing into the world of cinema with the announcement of his short film Red Clay. Variety revaled that the shot film is co-written by actor Omar Epps. The short film premiered at the Atlanta Film Festival with director Christopher Nolan Jones at the helm of the short. In a statement, 2 Chainz said of the film, "I tell stories through my music, always hoping people feel empowered to overcome anything. Red Clay is an extension of that. Atlanta is full of resilience, and bringing Nook and Bub’s story to life—everyday folks fighting to survive—means everything to me. Creating this with Omar Epps was truly legendary." Red Clay follows the story of Nook, played by Christopher A'mmanuel, a teenager who is facing societal challenges having grown up with a mother with drug addiction. Nook and his friend Bub dream of a better life but they find themselves stuck in the world he seeks to escape. The film is set in 2003 and stars Rutina Wesley and Jaylan Ragin. Epps said of the story, "My inspiration to write this film came from the need to unpack brutal truths, and showcase the complexities of why black and brown communities normalize trauma. It’s my hope to inspire conversations which motivate people to have more grace, and compassion towards one another.” In the past, 2 Chainz ventured into acting with his role on the TV series BMF as well as in the 2022 film The Enforcer.
