Zeekr has announced a new fully liquid-cooled electric vehicle (EV) charger with a peak power of 1.2MW (1,200 kW), which will make its public debut this month at the Shanghai Auto Show.
Zeekr Group vice president Zhao Yuhui revealed the charger at the China EV100 Forum and said the company intends to set up supercharging stations with 10 charging guns, each capable of delivering 1.2MW.
Over the past few years, Zeekr has updated its charging stations from 360 kW to 600 kW and then to 800 kW. At present, the company operates 4,007 chargers across 826 charging stations in China, with a target of 10,000 chargers by 2026.
Zeekr isn’t alone in embracing the “MW charging era,” as BYD and Didi have also unveiled chargers capable of delivering 1 MW or more. Not to be outdone, CarNewsChina reports that Huawei will announce its MW-level charger on April 22, and it will have a peak output of 1.5MW and a maximum charging current of 2,400A.
BYD will be the first out of the gate as it intends to install 4,000 units of its super-fast chargers, with the first 500 due to be deployed this month.
