“What Is the Aftermath?”: ‘The Pitt’ Creators Initially Wanted Season 1 to End After Episode 12
The Pitt creator R. Scott Gemmill revealed that Season 1 almost ended after Episode 12 before continuing with three more installments.
All episodes of The Pitt Season 1 are now streaming, and the wait is on for Season 2, which has already been confirmed to premiere on Max in January 2026. After The Pitt Episodes 12 and 13 crank up the intensity by focusing on a mass casualty event, the final two episodes slow down the pace. This is a bit of a departure from traditional television storytelling, which often builds up towards its most explosive moment in the season finale. But, as is the case with most things in The Pitt, this is by design. Series creator R. Scott Gemmill recently sat down for an interview with Variety, and he spoke about why the first season is structured like this, how it almost ended earlier:
