President Trump hosted the annual Iftar dinner, a feast of breaking bread common for Muslims during the month of Ramadan, at the White House Thursday evening.
The dinner came as war rages in the Middle East between Israel and Hamas after a fragile ceasefire, brokered by the U.S., Qatar and Egypt, was halted in Gaza as Israel pushes the Palestinian militant group to release hostages taken during the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on its southern border.
The White House is also under pressure after a Signal group chat with top Trump administration officials about recent strikes in Yemen inadvertently included a prominent journalist. The breach has prompted concerns about national security and whether the information was classified.
The dinner was scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. EDT.
