MIAMI – On April 7, officials from Miami International Airport and low-cost carrier Volaris celebrated the airline’s inaugural flight from MIA to Monterrey with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Monterrey joins Mexico City and Guadalajara as the third Mexican destination Volaris serves at MIA. Mexico is MIA’s second-busiest international market with 1.6 million travelers annually. Volaris El Salvador, a subsidiary of Volaris, also serves San Salvador and San Pedro Sula, Honduras at MIA.

“Congratulations to Volaris on launching their new Monterrey flights and their continued expansion of service at MIA. Thanks to their growing presence in Miami-Dade County, our residents now have even more flight options to Mexico.” says  Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.

Miami International Airport, America’s busiest airport for international freight and the second busiest for international passengers, is receiving an unprecedented investment of $9 billion in capital improvements and maintenance upgrades. MIA offers more flights to Latin America and the Caribbean than any other U.S. airport and is also the leading economic engine for Miami-Dade County and the state of Florida, generating business revenue of $118 billion and approximately 60 percent of all international visitors to Florida annually.

Volaris reported for March 2025 ASM capacity increased by 10.9% year-over-year, while RPMs for the month grew by 7.8%. Mexican domestic RPMs increased 9.9%, while international RPMs increased 4.6%. As a result, the load factor decreased by 2.4 percentage points year-over-year to 84.4%. During the month, Volaris transported 2.6 million passengers.

Enrique Beltranena, Volaris’ President and CEO, said: “March domestic load factor remains stable, indicating our effective approach to capacity management and fare modulation. Meanwhile, international cross-border demand continues to show limited elasticity. Across both domestic and international markets, VFR segments have maintained steady levels. Additionally, the shift of the Easter holiday into April this year contributed to some of the reduced load factors observed. We will continue to monitor forward booking patterns and adjust capacity to match demand accordingly.”
