“The Odyssey” Set Photos, Two More Join Cast

Sets are being hastily constructed in Morocco for Christopher Nolan’s historical epic “The Odyssey” with photos leaking from the world heritage site of Ait Benhaddo – a fortified village just to the west of the town of Ouarzazate.

Ouarzazate is home to two film production studios, and photos showcase sets being built at the Ait Benhaddo location with the most notable feature appearing to be a large horse statue – possibly the Trojan Horse of the story.

Photos of the location and the horse figure have flooded social media with some examples to be seen below. If it is the Trojan horse, it offers a very different looking and more polished one than the ‘made out of an old boat’ version from Wolfgang Petersen’s “Troy”.

Other works to have shot at Ouarzazate include “Lawrence of Arabia,” “Gladiator,” “The Mummy,” “Time Bandits,” “The Jewel of the Nile,” “The Living Daylights,” “The Last Temptation of Christ,” “Kundun,” “Alexander,” “Kingdom of Heaven ” and “Prince of Persia” along with HBO’s “Game of Thrones”.

The photos come as actors Michael Vlamis (“Roswell, New Mexico”) and Iddo Goldberg (“Snowpiercer”) have joined the film. As per usual, character details are under wraps.

So far Matt Damon is the only one whose role has been revealed – that of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, whose journey home after the Trojan War is the central part of the story.

Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Benny Safdie, Charlize Theron, Himesh Patel, Elliot Page, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Mia Goth, Corey Hawkins, Nick Tarabay, Jimmy Gonzales and Maurice Compte also star.

Hoyte Van Hoytema (“Interstellar,” “Oppenheimer,” “Nope”) will serve as cinematographer on the film which will also shoot in Sicily and the UK. The movie will open in cinemas in July next year.
