The New Pornographers’ drummer Joseph Seiders arrested on child pornography charges

Joseph Seiders, who has played drums in The New Pornographers since 2014, has been arrested in California on child pornography charges. The long-running Canadian band, who formed in 1997 and whose name is an very unfortunate coincidence, immediately severed ties with Seiders.
Television station KESQ reports that Seiders was arrested on April 9 on charges of possession of minor in sexual act, annoying/molesting a child, concealing camera of any type w/ intent to invade privacy, and attempting to conceal camera without consent. Two separate incidents in the bathroom of a Palm Desert, CA Chick-Fil-A were reported to police. An 11-year old boy told authorities an unknown man filmed him on his cellphone while he was using the bathroom on April 7, and on April 11 employees at the same restaurant reported to police “that a man was entering and exiting the restroom with minors.”
“Evidence was located implicating him in the two reported incidents, along with additional crimes, including possessing child pornography,” the Sheriff’s Office who booked him into the Larson Justice Center in Indio, CA, wrote in a news release.
KESQ got a statement from the band which they have since posted on all their social media accounts: “Everyone in the band is absolutely shocked, horrified and devastated by the news of the charges against Joe Seiders – and we have immediately severed all ties with him. Our hearts go out to everyone who has been impacted by his actions.”
