The Chemistry Between These Two 'Thunderbolts*' Heroes Just Created One of the MCU's Most Compelling Relationships

Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Thunderbolts*While the Marvel Cinematic Universe adheres closely to the comic book source material when depicting the relationships between some of its most iconic characters, such as Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), one of the great appeals of the franchise is seeing how it alters the dynamics between more obscure characters or creates strong bonds between figures who have little to nothing to do with one another in the comics. The latest MCU film, Thunderbolts*, is built on one of the latter kinds of dynamics. Black Widow Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Robert “Bob” Reynolds/The Sentry (Lewis Pullman) have encountered one another a few times in the comics, but don’t have a significant relationship. Onscreen, however, the pair quickly bond over their mutual struggles with mental health issues, and Pugh and Pullman create a complicated, lovable chemistry that makes their shared scenes some of the most poignant in the film.
