The estimates for the second weekend of Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” keeps on rising, the vampire musical-themed original title wowed in its second weekend with a massive $45 million domestically – down just 6% from its $48 million debut last weekend and a superb hold, especially for an R-rated horror feature.
That brings the $90 million-budgeted film’s North American total up to $122.5 million. The film also had welcome news internationally – after a poor start last weekend in 70 markets, it seems overseas audiences are liking what they saw with the film dropping just 14% in its second outing. As a result, it closed out its second weekend with a total of $39.1 million from overseas markets.
The overall domestic box-office for the weekend has Hollywood very happy, the combined $146 million total of all films it not just the best result for the final weekend of April since the end of COVID, but the first in years where four titles scored more than $20 million each.
The re-release of “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” came in second with $25.2 million over the debut of “The Accountant 2” with $24.4 million in third – just $300,000 short of the 2016 original.
The fourth weekend of “A Minecraft Movie” was fourth with $22.7 million, while the newly released “Until Dawn” came in fifth with $8 million.
Overseas, “A Minecraft Movie” continues to power forward with a further $37.8 million offshore to bring its total to $816.6 million after just four weekends, while “The Accountant 2” launched to $13.7 million overseas.
