'Sinners' Is Ryan Coogler's Bloody Take on a Southern 'Seven Samurai'
Sinners and Seven Samurai might seem like two completely different movies, but there's a few elements that link the two.

The story of his hit horror film serves as a tribute to his late uncle, while the vampires draw inspiration from Puss in Boots: The Last Wishand an episode of The Twilight Zone, of all things. But there's one film that Sinners has a few things in common with, and that's Seven Samurai. At first glance, Akira Kurosawa's war epic seems to have very little in common with Sinners: one is about the waning days of the Sengoku period and the samurai's role in society, while the other takes place in 1932 in the Deep South. But both films share more than a few similarities in their respective plots, and an underlying theme of unity.
