Roma vs Juventus predictions It seemed impossible for Roma fans to love Claudio Ranieri any more than they already did, but the veteran Italian has somehow achieved that feat this season. Born in the Eternal City back in 1951, Ranieri spent much of his youth in the club’s academy but he only made six league appearances for the Roma first team before being sold. He had more success as a manager than a player, and in 2009 he was back at his boyhood club as their head coach. Roma finished second in Serie A in Ranieri’s first season in the dugout. The following campaign was more of a struggle, though, and after a fourth defeat on the bounce in February 2011 Ranieri resigned. He returned briefly in 2019 and almost qualified Roma for the Champions League, but his part-time contract was not renewed at the end of that campaign. After keeping Cagliari in Serie A last term, Ranieri announced his retirement from club management at the ripe old age of 72. Not many offers could have persuaded him to scrap those plans, but after a nightmarish start to the season under Daniele De Rossi and then Ivan Juric, Roma again turned to Ranieri in November. The former Leicester City boss accepted their offer to lead the team until the end of the campaign, much to the delight of the supporters. In truth, though, the fans did not expect much. After losses to Napoli and Atalanta in Ranieri’s first two games back, Roma dropped to 15th in the Serie A standings. Perhaps they might do something in Europe or the Coppa Italia, but the league was surely a write-off. Not so. Roma are out of the Europa League and the Coppa, but a remarkable run of form has lifted them into contention for a top-four finish and Champions League qualification. Roma are on a 14-game unbeaten streak which predates the turn of the year. They have won each of their last seven Serie A assignments and have taken 28 points from the last 30 on offer. No one else in the division can match that rate of return over the last 10 matches. With Juventus also in the mix for a top-four finish, this is a pivotal match for both teams. Artem Dovbyk to score any time
Even though Artem Dovbyk notched Roma’s winner against Lecce last time out, Ranieri has publicly said he wants to see more from the striker.
“We must demand more [than goals] from him because we want to motivate him,” the Roma boss said. “We do this every day. And he agrees with it.”
Dovbyk is a goalscorer first and foremost, though, and every Roma fan would settle for him scoring the winner against Juventus even if he was otherwise anonymous.
Dovbyk has scored 16 times in all competitions and he can add to his tally this weekend.
