It appears there will be another chapter in the ongoing off-season storyline between the Los Angeles Rams and quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Both sides are set to meet on Friday to discuss Stafford’s future with the team, with a decision expected to come soon, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.
This comes as the Rams gave Stafford permission to speak with other teams in order to gauge what he could get on the market. The New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders have reportedly met with Stafford and apparently could agree to a deal for two years that includes $90 to $ 100 million guaranteed.
If the Rams were to move on from Stafford, Las Vegas certainly seems like a prime destination. The quarterback carries a lofty $49.7 million cap hit for 2025, but the Raiders are well-equipped to take on his contract. As of Wednesday, the Silver and Black sit second in the NFL with just over $99.5 million in cap space, per Over The Cap.
The Giants reportedly met with Stafford’s agent on Tuesday. New York is one of many teams looking for a new starting quarterback after parting ways with Daniel Jones last season. The Giants own the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft but still want to add a veteran quarterback to the mix.
However, Rams head coach Sean McVay reiterated on the Fitz & Whit podcast this week that the Rams’ “first goal in mind” is to have Stafford back under centre for the 2025 season.
