Report: Panthers sign safety Tre’von Moehrig to three-year, $51M deal

The Carolina Panthers are loading up on defensive talent as they look to climb out of the mud in the NFC South.

Star safety Tre’von Moehrig is on his way to the Panthers after signing a three-year, $51 million deal, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Monday.

According to Rapoport, the deal has a max of $60 million with incentives.

Moehrig had a strong campaign in Las Vegas last season, tallying two interceptions, 10 passes defended, two fumble recoveries, one sack and 104 combined tackles in 17 starts.

The 25-year-old was widely considered one of the top players available at safety in this free-agent class.

The Panthers have had a busy day, as the team put pen to paper on a record-breaking extension with cornerback Jaycee Horn earlier in the day, solidifying their defensive back room for the next few seasons.
