Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is betting on himself.
The Oklahoma City Thunder MVP candidate parted ways with his agent and will represent himself in contract talks, NBA insider Chris Haynes reported on Tuesday.
Gilgeous-Alexander is signed through the 2026-27 campaign, but will be eligible for a four-year contract extension in the off-season worth nearly $300 million — a number that would set him up to become the first player to make $80 million in a single season, per NBA insider Marc Stein.
Haynes noted that Gilgeous-Alexander would retain management for off-court matters.
The 26-year-old from Hamilton, Ont., leads the NBA with 32.5 points per game across 53 contests and made his third All-Star Game appearance on Sunday in San Francisco.
Oklahoma City is tops in the Western Conference with a 44-10 record.
