It looks like Sony won’t increase the price of first-party PS5 games in the near future, unlike Nintendo and Microsoft. When Ghost of Yotei pre-orders finally went live yesterday, fans breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing that the standard version was still listed at $70.

PS5 first-party AAA games expected to stick to $70 price tag until end of 2025, at least

Ghost of Yotei’s retail price is significant here because the game launches in October 2025. Nintendo’s new $80 price tag will come into effect starting June with the launch of Switch 2, and Xbox game prices will be adjusted to $80 starting holiday 2025.

Some fans reckon that Ghost of Yotei’s price indicates that Sony won’t be following suit until the end of 2025, at least. But what comes afterwards remains to be seen. For now, players are relieved.

“I’m glad it’s 70 dollars instead of 80,” wrote one player as Ghost of Yotei pre-orders went live. “Hope Sony holds out on increasing their games prices.” Others expressed similar views.

Some, however, are not convinced that Sony isn’t planning a price increase.

“Keeping the price of their games at $70 is such an easy win that they will 100% f*** it up,” a fan said. “The Sony games after this will go to 80,” another one added with confidence.

Frankly, we’ll be surprised if Sony doesn’t hike up game prices next year. But we’ll celebrate Ghost of Yotei being $70 for now.
