Porsche has teased plans to build a road-going version of its championship-winning 963 LMDh car, with an expected reveal to take place at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.

On Friday, the Stuttgart manufacturer released promotional materials celebrating the 50th anniversary of the commission of a road legal version of the 917 that won back-to-back editions of Le Mans.

A video posted to social media concludes with the words ‘June 2025,’ followed by an image of the silhouette of a 963.

Additionally, an article published by the brand detailing the story of the road-going 917 ends with a passage hinting at a similar project involving the 963, stating:

“Importantly, as it’s descendent enjoys success on the track today, the spirit and desire within Porsche that allowed the creation of a 917 for the road all that time ago remains very much alive five decades on – prompting the question: what if?”

A Porsche spokesperson declined to provide further information about the project when approached by Sportscar365, saying “we have to wait for June.”

The Multimatic-chassised 963 made its competition debut in 2023 and has since gone on to enjoy significant success in the hands of the factory Porsche Penske Motorsport operation.

In the FIA World Endurance Championship, it won last year’s Hypercar drivers’ title with Laurens Vanthoor, Kevin Estre and Andre Lotterer.

It is also currently in the midst of an undefeated streak in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, winning the Rolex 24 at Daytona for the second time in January before adding further wins at the Mobil 1 Twelve of Hours of Sebring and Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.

That came after a highly successful WeatherTech Championship campaign in which it took a championship double, including the drivers’ title for Dane Cameron and Felipe Nasr.
