When you first get the Goromaru in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, you won’t be able to customize the ship. It’ll take a bit for you to unlock ship customization, including the ability to change its appearance and equipment and upgrade its performance. Fortunately, all these options are unlocked at once when you reach a certain point in the story.
When can you change the ship’s appearance in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii
You won’t unlock the ability to customize your ship in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii until the latter half of Chapter 2. Once you recruit Clark and Julie to refit the Goromaru, you’ll need to hit the city to get more cash and crew members.
Before you can move the story forward, you must have at least 15 crew members and $10,000. Once you fulfill both those requirements, you can head back to the dock. Clark and Julie will show off the new and improved Goromaru, and you’ll unlock ship customization. This includes:
Changing equipment allows you to purchase various weapons and upgrade your current loadout.
Upgrading performance allows you to expand your boarding squad, improve the ship’s durability, add cannons, and upgrade the number of repairs, fuel tanks, and smoke screens you can carry.
You’ll also be able to change the Goromaru’s appearance. The hull, sails, figurehead, and trimming can all be modified to give the ship a custom look.
To access these options, you’ll need to be on the Prepare to Sail screen, which can be accessed at docks or lighthouses.
After the Goromaru is upgraded, you’ll also get some new options that you can access from the ship’s deck. In particular, the ship’s interior has a cooking station, and you can throw feasts and parties and participate in karaoke in the captain’s quarters.
