Paul Scholes sends Andre Onana transfer warning to Manchester United fans
Another difficult night for Onana.

Paul Scholes has issued a warning to Manchester United fans hoping for Andre Onana to be replaced this summer.
Onana endured another difficult night as United drew 2-2 with Lyon in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final, with both of the hosts’ goals coming from goalkeeping errors.
The Cameroonian flapped at Thiago Almada’s inswinging free-kick to gift Lyon the lead and then gave Rayan Cherki the chance to equalise late on by spilling a shot.
In-between Onana’s mistakes, Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirzkee both scored to put Manchester United ahead and ensure the tie is finely poised ahead of next week’s return leg at Old Trafford.
Speaking after the game, United legend Scholes insisted Onana’s future was ‘something the club need to think about’, though he questioned whether they had the money needed to sign a suitable replacement.

Scholes also said Amorim may be better off spending any money he is given for new signings on other areas of the pitch, given United’s need for a new striker.
Asked whether Manchester United should replace Onana in the summer, Scholes said on TNT Sports: ‘Yeah, I think it’s something they need to think about.
‘But they need to look at the budget as well. Can you get away with not spending that money on a goalkeeper?
‘He hasn’t been quite good enough but it will come down to money and what Amorim has got to spend.
‘We’ve seen this goalkeeper do well at Inter Milan as well. But I don’t think his distribution has been great either, and that’s one of the reasons he was brought in.
‘But can you almost get away with not spending another £40m on a goalkeeper? I don’t know. Ruben Amorim has a lot of problems to solve.’
Since the start of last season, no Premier League goalkeeper has made more efforts leading to goals than former Inter Milan star Onana.
Discussing Onana’s performance against Lyon, Amorim said: ‘When one player makes a mistake, all the team makes a mistake so we continue like this.’
Asked whether he would take Onana out of the firing line, Amorim added: ‘No, we continue to do the same thing.
‘We train, watch the games and we choose the best XI for each match.’
Despite Onana’s blunders, Manchester United are still in a fairly strong position to reach the Europa League semi-finals ahead of their home quarter-final.
‘We are really disappointed [to concede late],’ Amorim said. ‘We should have taken a one goal advantage to the next game but we have the next game at home – we will try to win that game.’
Scholes was underwhelmed by Manchester United’s performance against Lyon but still expects his former club to progress in the competition.
‘It’s probably the right result, I think Lyon played better football,’ he said. ‘But I still think United are in a really good position.
‘You would take a draw there. United should still be big favourites to go through at home. It’s not a disaster, it’s a decent result and United should still go through.
‘They will have to be better but you’d have to make them firm favourites to go through.’
Should they progress at the expense of Lyon, Manchester United will face Scottish giants Rangers or Spanish side Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals. That first-leg clash at Ibrox ended goalless.
United return to Premier League action this weekend against Newcastle United before attentions turn back to the Europa League and Ligue 1 side Lyon.
