Spoilers for ‘The White Lotus’ season three ahead.
The White Lotus star Patrick Schwarzenegger has described his emotional reaction to watching the finale of season three of the show.
The actor, who played Saxon, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about his time on the series ending, and how watching the final episode with castmate Aimee Lee Wood became overwhelming compared to other projects he has been on.
“When I did The Staircase or American Sports, you go and you film and you get close to the cast, but at the end of the day, you return home to your own apartment or your hotel,” he recalled. “This wasn’t like that. It was just incredibly intense”.
He continued: “For eight months, it’s just the cast and the crew all alone in one place for 24 hours a day. And then you’re together for months of press, so you end up knowing these people and bonding with them in a very deep and intimate way. Then, the last episode airs and it’s over. It’s kind of sad and unsettling”.
The final episode saw the hard-partying Saxon reconsider his future, while Wood’s character Chelsea was a casualty of the climactic shooting, being caught in the crossfire started by her lover Rick (Walton Goggins). Seeing it all play out proved too much for Schwarzenegger.
“You know, when I was watching the finale the other night and the shooting happened, I got really torn up. I didn’t expect that,” he said. “It felt like the death of that chapter for me in my life. I just got very emotional about it all. About Saxon and where he ended up. About Chelsea’s death. I started crying. I literally cried! I looked over at Aimee Lou Wood, who was watching it with me, and I just put my head on her shoulders and she put hers on mine. It was this nice, sad moment for us”.
Recently, Wood took to Instagram to describe a parody of her in SNL as “mean and unfunny”, eventually getting an apology from the sketch show.
