‘Out for blood’ – Full Swing creator says ‘jacked’ Rory McIlroy on Masters warpath to $100 million

GettyRory McIlroy has made several changes with the Masters returning[/caption] “This Rory right now, he’s out for blood,” Chad Mumm, executive producer of Netflix’s Full Swing, exclusively told talkSPORT. “He wants to slam the door on any of these conversations of the greatest player of his generation.” McIlroy has 28 PGA Tour wins and has collected $99.7 million in earnings on the PGA Tour after his win in Florida last week – taking him beyond $160m in career earnings across the globe. The Northern Ireland star is one of the biggest names in golf, and has spent the beginning of the 2025 campaign reminding the world of his all-around talent. But the buzz felt on Monday as McIlroy knocked out J.J. Spaun in a three-hole Players playoff wasn’t an illusion. McIlroy has sharpened his focus and intensity, Mumm said, and there’s a reason that the 2025 Masters could belong to a golfer who’s already captured The Open, PGA Championship and US Open in the quest for golf’s Grand Slam Holy Grail. “Every year, I feel like at the beginning of the year, it’s hard not to pick Rory for every single major,” said Mumm, who’s the co-founder and president of Pro Shop. “He’s the most consistent player of his generation. He’s been elite since he first (showed) up on the scene. “It definitely feels like a more complete player. You saw his A game at Pebble Beach, that’s like an unfathomable level of golf. “Sawgrass is such a difficult course, where there’s just disaster kind of lurking everywhere. … It was a great sign for Rory, to see him get it done with the pressure of a Monday. And to stick it right on the green — you saw his heart rate drop.” Mumm managed to get up close with McIlroy during the recent filming of Happy Gilmore 2, which will see Adam Sandler bring back the most famous Hollywood golfer of all-time with a cast that includes Christopher McDonald, Ben Stiller, Bad Bunny, John Daly, Paige Spiranac, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka. “I got to spend a little bit of time with Rory in the offseason,” Mumm said. “It was interesting, because he was in the middle of a pretty rigorous reworking of his swing.” While fine-tuning his attack on the course, the No. 2-ranked golfer in the world also improved his physique. “He would probably tell you he’s kind of physically at his best place,” Mumm said. “I mean, he is jacked right now. He’s got his fitness and obviously his health is in great form.” To social media haters and on-course hecklers, McIroy is still the golfer who’s never been able to win the Masters, and suffered internationally televised heartbreak at the 2024 US Open. “The few days after it were pretty tough at times,” McIlroy said last year. “But I feel like I’ve done a good job of thinking about it rationally and constructively and taking what I need from it and trying to learn from it. … I keep saying to people, ‘It was a great day until it wasn’t.’ “ Add in the fact that McIlroy dealt with personal drama last season and was turned into a spokesman for the bitter PGA vs LIV split, and it’s obvious that the TGL co-founder was dealing with more than just a numbing one-stroke loss to Bryson DeChambeau at Pinehurst. “He’s narrowed in his focus,” Mumm said. “Last year, there was a lot going on with pro golf. This kind of consistent narrative of, is he part of the transaction committee? Is he not. Is he involved? Is he not? Mumm added: “This year, he’s like, ‘I’m going to focus on winning.’ And I think you can see the difference in his interviews — there’s a sharpness.”
Three seasons into Full Swing, Mumm believes in McIlroy more than ever in tournament after tournament.
The 35-year-old only missing a Masters trophy for a career Grand Slam is ‘out for blood’ in 2025.
And the annual beauty of Augusta is only a few weeks away – he’s arguably playing better than ever.
“At this point, he’s won two of the three biggest events of the year,” Mumm said.
“I’m like, watch out, because this could be — he could have a Scottie-like season this year, and go reel off eight to 10 wins.
“It’s always been possible for him, but I’m loving his attitude. I’m loving the strut and his step. And it feels like this is the year.”
