Awoniyi suffered a nasty head injury in the 89th minute of the FA Cup tie against Exeter on Tuesday, which Forest needed a penalty shootout to get through. Boss Nuno Espirito Santo said the player was going through checks on Thursday to see if he is fit to resume training ahead of the visit to Craven Cottage or whether he has to serve a 12-day concussion protocol. Nuno said: ‘He broke his nose so he is in pain, we are waiting for the right protocols to be followed, we have to wait and see if he available because of concussion. We have to be careful. ‘He looks OK. He smiled, he is in pain, but in these situations we have to be careful. The right protocols, two or three days to settle down and we’ll see if he is available.’ Awoniyi was getting measured for a mask on Thursday afternoon to be able to play with his broken nose in case he passed the concussion checks. Nuno added: ‘He is in that situation. He is looking at his mask because it has to be the right measurements. He is waiting on that. We have to wait.’ Winger Callum Hudson-Odoi is set to return to the squad following a groin injury. ‘It’s progressing, he joined the group yesterday, today also he was part of the sessions,’ Nuno added. ‘We still have tomorrow to assess him. A lot of players, with a lot of knocks, we still have one session. ‘I am positive but we still need him to be 100 per cent, let’s wait but I’m positive.’ Awoniyi’s injury and Forest having to play extra-time against the Grecians made it a very late night, with the team getting back to the City Ground after 2am. ‘It will have an impact but the best way is that it is positive,’ Nuno added. ‘But we made it. Every time you have to prepare for a match it’s best if you’ve won.’
