No Lauren James but Lionesses welcome three stars back just 50 days away from Euro 2025

Chelsea star Lauren James is a notable absentee from England Women’s latest squad as she continues to recover from injury. With the European Championshop now just 50 days away, the Lionesses are already preparing to defend the title they won on home soil in 2022. James will not be featuring for England in their upcoming matchesGetty But first, their attention will be in the UEFA Women’s Nations League ahead of crunch matches with Portugal and Spain on the horizon. Sitting second in the table – two points behind leaders Spain – England know top spot is in their hands if they secure two victories. Only the group winner will seal their passage into the semi-finals in October, with the two-legged final to take place in November and December. And the upcoming games have come too soon for winger James, who suffered a hamstring knock in England’s 5-0 win over Belgium last month. Though in positive news, Bayern Munich midfielder Georgia Stanway is back in the team. The 26-year-old, who has scored 21 goals in 75 international games, hasn’t played a competitive match since December after undergoing surgery. Stanway suffered a lateral collateral ligament tear (LCL) in her right knee, but has been cleared by the medical team to feature against Portugal and Spain. Manchester City defender Alex Greenwood is another that has earned a recall to the team after she underwent surgery on her medial collateral ligament in December.
