Nissan has pulled its Z NISMO GT4 out of SRO America, and effectively as a result, North American racing with immediate effect, following two seasons of competition.
Confirmed in a statement provided to Sportscar365 on Wednesday, the Japanese manufacturer has ceased customer racing activities with the car in the U.S. market, with a specific reason not given.
“As we begin the 2025 racing season, Nissan/NISMO will not be participating in the US SRO race series but continue development of our GT4 car in the Japanese Super Taikyu race series,” the statement read.
“We sincerely appreciate Flying Lizard’s dedication and impressive results over the past year, which has significantly contributed to our motorsport success. Their hard work and commitment have been invaluable to our efforts, and we are thankful for their partnership.”
The confirmation came following a statement earlier in the day from Flying Lizard, the lone remaining Z NIMSO GT4 customer in SRO America, announcing its withdrawal due to “recent changes within the Nissan organization’s GT4 program.”
Flying Lizard, Blackdog Racing and TechSport all campaigned the car in GT4 America last year with varying levels of success, following an initial development program in 2023 spearheaded by TechSport.
TechSport has shifted its focus to other series this year while Blackdog has made the switch to a McLaren Artura GT4, with Flying Lizard now currently evaluating the GT4 marketplace amid its continued GT World Challenge America powered by AWS program with a BMW M4 GT3 EVO and new McLaren Trophy America operation.
The Z NISMO GT4 will now only be represented in Japan’s Super Taikyu series this year.
A program in IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge was ruled out by Nissan Motor Corporation motorsports program director Mike Carcamo last October.
