Nintendo held a new 15-minute direct presentation this morning devoted exclusively to its Switch 2 launch title, “Mario Kart World”.
The lengthy clip offers new looks at the features and modes available to players in the game, along with showing off some of the new courses like Salty Salty Speedway, the chilly Starview Peak, the spooky Boo Cinema, and even a retro-themed one.
Races will also feature ‘Dash Food’ with characters able to collect and eat foods that will transform them into an outfit related to that food. Once an outfit has been unlocked, it’s available for use in the character select screen.
New items in the game include the Coin Shell, the Hammer, the Ice Flower and Kamek. Meanwhile, Mega Mushroom and Feathers will return, while a Free Roam option is shown quite well in the presentation.
New car tricks include a Charge Jump to leap over obstacles or help do wall jumps. Players also have the ability to rewind gameplay if something is missed. The game will support four-player split-screen on a single Switch 2 console, and local wireless for up to eight players.
Driving assist controls will also be returning for younger players, including Smart Steering and Tilt Controls. A Joy-Con 2 Wheel accessory will also be released.
The title will hit stores on June 5th and cost $80 standalone or available as part of a bundle.
