Newcastle vs Man Utd: Confirmed team news, predicted lineup and injuries

Manchester United will hope to end their three-match winless run when they travel to face Newcastle United in the Premier League today.

Ruben Amorim’s side have now drawn back-to-back games after Andre Onana’s error saw them concede a late equaliser in their Europa League quarter-final first leg with Lyon.

The Red Devils have had little time to lick their wounds, however, and now face a daunting task at St James’ Park.

Amorim selected an unchanged XI from United’s draw with Manchester City for their trip to Lyon but may choose to rotate his side now ahead of the crucial second leg at Old Trafford.

Joshua Zirzkee notched up his second Europa League goal of the season against Lyon and could replace Rasmus Hojlund at the top of the pitch after the Dane endured a quiet night against Lyon.

Mason Mount made his third successive cameo appearance off the bench as he continues his comeback from a lengthy injury, while Kobbie Mainoo also came on late in the encounter having missed United’s last ten games.

Luke Shaw was once again an unused substitute, with Amorim clearly not keen to rush his left-back into action given his well-documented injury woes.

Chido Obi will be available for selection again after being ruled out of Thursday’s clash due to registration rules.

Matthijs De Ligt and Toby Collyer missed out again with minor injuries, and both have undergone further assessment ahead of today’s clash.

Ayden Heaven, Jonny Evans and Amad Diallo could well return before the end of the season, but Lisandro Martinez is a long-term absentee with a knee injury.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are set to be without head coach Eddie Howe after the 47-year-old was admitted to hospital on Friday having felt ill for several days.

Jason Tindall will man the touchline in Howe’s absence, with the Magpies also set to make a late call on the availability of Anthony Gordon before today’s game.

‘He’s had a decent week with the physios,’ Tindall said in Friday’s pre-match press conference when asked about Gordon.

‘He was back on the grass for a pitch session yesterday. We’ll assess him again today to see how he’s responded to that session, then we’ll have to make a late call over the weekend to see how he is for Sunday.’
