Morbidelli injured in unseen Jerez MotoGP crash

VR46 Ducati MotoGP rider Franco Morbidelli has sustained an injury in an unseen crash during the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez.
Morbidelli had fought back up the order after an early mistake on the braking at Turn 1, and was riding in sixth position when he crashed out.
It was reported the crash had taken place at Turn 11, the fast right-handed corner named after MotoGP champion Alex Criville.
The VR46 team has now communicated that Morbidelli had sustained "a significant cervical concussion" in the crash but with no fractures.
"His recovery timeline will be evaluated in the coming hours," the team added.
Morbidelli famously had a big incident while testing with a road bike in the 2024 pre-season, which left him with a head injury.
More relevant, though, is the fact he'd also had a big accident earlier in the Jerez weekend, going into the airfence at Turn 4 in practice in Saturday morning.
The accident had left him with pain in his hands but, more pertinently, in his neck - and this may have been exacerbated by this latest crash given the reference to a "cervical" injury.
