Misha Kahn's Otherworldly Works Are Coming to Milan Design Week

During this year's Milan Design Week, American designer Misha Kahn is set to present a collection of new works at an exhibition inside the Capsule Plaza venue.Known for his experimental approach to materials and form, Kahn will transform the space into a surreal, tactile landscape that explores concepts surrounding cosmology and the natural world. At the heart of the exhibition will be a series of mirrors titled "Azimuth". The title of the pieces comes directly from a word which, in layman's terms, is used to describe the direction of a celestial object from the observer. “What I liked about it, is that the viewer is at the epicenter of this cosmic challenge," Kahn says, expanding on the concept and its relation to the mirrors as an object. "It seemed to reflect our desire to measure ourselves against our abyss, here illustrated by radiating rectangular irises of color."Elsewhere, Kahn will exhibit a table titled "Euphausiids Delight (Final Moments)". Crafted from a combination of bioactive thermoplastic, resin, fiberglass, steel, and automotive paint, the table sees limb-like details curving around each other to create a tangled form inspired by crustaceans.Making his first foray into marble, the space will also feature a piece titled "A Long Winter’s Sleep" which sees the material carved to look like draped fabric. Unlike the majority of other pieces on show, A Long Winter's Sleep" will be colored only by the natural tones of the material. The exhibition also features a mohair carpet created with Stephens Tapestry Studio, a sculptural couch "Mole Eats Worm," the chair "Double Shuck Pea," and a cast bronze chandelier.Far Afield will be on view at Milan Design Week at Capsule Plaza from April 8 to April 13.Capsule PlazaPiazza Risorgimento 8, Capsule Plaza, Milano, ItalyClick here to view full gallery at Hypebeast
