Michael Owen names the Arsenal transfer target who Liverpool will do everything in their power to sign

The Sweden international has enjoyed another reputation enhancing campaign and scored the goal last weekend that helped end Newcastle’s long wait for a trophy. Newcastle are keen to tie the 25-year-old to a new long-term contract but the striker is in no rush to discuss fresh terms, especially with Newcastle far from gratinated to feature in next season’s Champions League. Arsenal have placed the former Real Sociedad star at the the top of their transfer wishlist but Owen expects Liverpool to be in the mix if the Magpies indicate they could be willing to listen to offfers. ‘If Isak was available I think Liverpool would do everything in their power to get somebody like that,’ Owen told talkSPORT. ‘But so would Arsenal. You need special players, look at Liverpool this year, they’ve got the best centre-half, one of the best attackers in Mo Salah. ‘They’ve got the best goalkeeper, you have to have the very elite players to compete. He is one you’ve just got to build your team around, they’ve already got a really strong midfield and with Isak up front you’ve got half a chance.’ Owen, meanwhile, is confident Liverpool will sign a new centre forward in the summer with Darwin Nunez’s days at Anfield almost over. He added: ‘I can’t see Darwin Nunez in a Liverpool shirt next season. I think there’s interest in him as well, I think one or two Premier League teams are interested in him. There is foreign interest in him as well.’
