Martin Scorsese’s untitled, Hawaiian-set crime drama is saying “Aloha” to 20th Century Studios, which has landed the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio, Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt already attached. The film will have a script by Nick Bilton, based on an idea by Blunt.

The official synopsis reads: “In 1960s and ’70s Hawaii, a formidable and charismatic mob boss rises to build the islands’ most powerful criminal empire, waging a brutal war against mainland corporations and rival syndicates while fighting to preserve his ancestral land. Based on the untold true story of a man who fought to preserve his homeland through a ruthless quest for absolute power — igniting the last great American mob saga, where the war for cultural survival takes place in the unlikeliest of places: paradise.”

Scorsese (for his Sikelia Productions), Johnson (for his Seven Bucks Productions), DiCaprio (for his Appian Way Productions) and Blunt (for her Ledbury Productions) will produce alongside Bilton (for his True Story Productions). Serving as executive producers are Dany Garcia, co-founder of Seven Bucks Productions, and Lisa Frechette from Sikelia Productions, along with Rick Yorn and Chris Donnelly from LBI Entertainment.

David Greenbaum, president of Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios, and Steve Asbell, president of 20th Century Studios, will be overseeing for the studio.

The film will be based, in part, on a forthcoming book that will be co-authored by Bilton and Johnson.

Earlier this year, Disney and Seven Bucks signed a first-look deal. Under the arrangement, Garcia and Johnson will develop films for theatrical and streaming. Among these projects is “Monster Jam,” a live-action feature that was introduced at the D23 Expo last year in Anaheim, California, and will eventually be released by Walt Disney Studios. Johnson also recently starred in the $1 billion-grossing “Moana 2” and will portray demigod Maui in the live-action remake of the first film next year.
