Former “Heroes” and “Hawaii Five-0” star Masi Oka is teaming with CBS Studios and Propagate Content to develop a TV adaptation of Shueisha’s dark fantasy manga series “Claymore”.

Norihiro Yagi created and pens the series which is set in a dark, medieval world where for millennia, humans have been preyed upon by shape-shifting predators called Yoma.

The survival of mankind depends on female warriors known as Claymores, who fight the Yoma and are a mix of human and Yoma DNA. They have been designed by a mysterious organization to combat these threats… for a price.

The story follows Clare, a Claymore who takes a young orphan boy under her protection after saving him from one of these creatures.

The new series aims to keep the “action and complex moral dilemmas” of both the original manga and the single season anime TV series which adapts only a small part of the now 27-volume series.

Oka, Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, and Rodney Ferrell will executive produce and a search is now underway for a writer.

Oka was previously a co-producer on the live-action Netflix 2017 film adaptation of manga series “Death Note”. The project marks the latest manga-anime live-action adaptation following the success of Netflix’s “One Piece”.

The original “Claymore” anime is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
