Toyota Gazoo Racing North America’s GR Cup Series has announced the launch of the Legends Cup presented by WWEX Group.
Designed exclusively for drivers 45 years and older, the Legends Cup class will be featured within the GR Cup Series at select events during the GR Cup season, offering seasoned racers a unique platform to compete at some of the most iconic tracks in the United States.
The Legends Cup is a six-race competition held at Circuit of The Americas, Road America and Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the 45-minute GR Cup series races.
Competitors in the Legends Cup will race for podium honors, with the top three finishers in each event recognized on a Legend-specific podium.
The driver with the highest cumulative points across all Legends Cup events will be crowned the inaugural Legends Cup champion.
“The Legends Cup is an exciting opportunity to recognize the experience and passion that these racers bring to the track,” said Mike Norem, manager of customer racing, TGRNA.
“With the support of WWEX Group, we’re proud to provide a competitive platform that showcases these drivers and adds another exciting element to the GR Cup Series.”
In addition to the Legends Cup competition, WWEX Group will award a $5,000 bonus to the highest finishing Legend driver at each of the 14 GR Cup races, further incentivizing top-level competition among experienced racers.
At the end of the season, the Legend driver with the highest cumulative points will become the WWEX Group Fastest Legend and earn an additional $5,000 award.
In total, $75,000 in prize money is up for grabs for Legends drivers through these awards.
The first two rounds of the overall GR Cup season kick off this weekend at Sonoma Raceway.
