“Kingdom of Heaven: Director’s Cut” Hits 4K

20th Century Studios has announced that a newly restored and remastered version of the director’s cut of Ridley Scott’s 2005 Crusades epic “Kingdom of Heaven” is coming to 4K UHD disc on May 27th.

The original 144-minute theatrical release film was released to mixed reviews and a soft $218 million at the box-office back in 2005, but a year later came his director’s cut which clocked in 50 minutes longer and significantly changed the film.

That new cut is now seen as not just the definitive version of the film, but one of Scott’s best works and one of the greatest examples of how a director’s cut can drastically improve a movie. This disc release contains the director’s cut along with the ‘Director’s Cut Roadshow Version’ which adds an overture and an intermission.

Orlando Bloom stars in the film as Balian, a young Frenchman in medieval Jerusalem during the Crusades. Having lost everything, Balian finds redemption through a heroic fight — against overwhelming forces — to save his people and fulfil his destiny as a knight.

Eva Green, Jeremy Irons, David Thewlis, Brendan Gleeson, Edward Norton, Michael Sheen, Liam Neeson, Alexander Siddig, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Kevin McKidd co-starred.

The 20th Anniversary disc release is a three-disc set encased in a collectible SteelBook that honors the remarkable weaponry and masks featured in the film. The set will have multiple commentaries, featurettes, posters, deleted scenes and more.

20th Century Studios will also hold a special one-night-only 4K theatrical re-release on May 14th. Beyond Fest will host an advanced viewing of the 4K release on Friday, May 2nd at The Egyptian Theatre where fans can watch the remastered Director’s Cut for the first time in 4K.
