Kevin Kiermaier returns as special assistant to the Toronto Blue Jays

Kevin Kiermaier has found his way back to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Only a few months after winning the World Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers and finishing his 12-year MLB career as a player, Kiermaier is set to make his return to the diamond, this time as a special assistant to the Blue Jays, MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson reported Saturday.

Kiermaier signed with the Blue Jays in 2023 and quickly built strong connections within the organization that he maintained even after he was traded at the 2024 deadline.

After announcing his retirement, Kiermaier made it clear to Ross Atkins and other members of the team that he wanted to return to the ballpark to help advise and work with the club’s outfielders.

The Blue Jays are used to this sort of arrangement, many former players have returned to help out with the team after their retirement. Last year Victor Martinez was added as a special assistant to work with young hitters. Pat Hentgen, who won the 1996 Cy Young Award, has also remained a great resource to current pitchers over the last 10 years.
