Judd Trump raises bizarre question over snooker balls after losing out on £150,000 prize

Judd Trump complained about the ‘very, very strange’ balls after losing out at the Players Championship and £150,000 to Kyren Wilson. UK champion Trump claimed he was unable to display his typical free-flowing style as the balls were not moving as he wanted. Trump has won three events this term, two ranking titlesGetty Both players voiced their frustration to the referee during the match. The Ace was beaten 10-9 by the world champion Wilson in a tense encounter which saw the two tied 4-4 at the interval in Telford. Trump did earn a ninth frame but Wilson took control and claimed the next four. The UK champion, Trump, missed a long red to the corner which allowed Wilson to conclude the match to get his fourth ranking title of the season, three of those coming against Trump. After the match, Trump said to ITV: “The balls were playing a bit tricky, it wasn’t like the rest of the tournament where I was able to play free-flowing.  “I don’t know what the difference was today. It was very, very strange and I don’t think I’ve ever experienced that before in a tournament. It was a good tournament and I’ll look forward to the next tournament. “It was tricky. It was tricky for both of us. The ball was very light and it was taking off like a ping-pong ball. It was a bit strange.” He continued: “It was difficult because coming into the game, I thought it was going to be a brilliant standard. Me and Kyren have played some great stuff in the tournament.  “But it bogged us both down a little bit. It was not disappointing but we weren’t able to play our best. “There was some drama in the decider. I wasn’t able to play my best. I thought I was going to hit the pink when I was going there but the white stunned for some reason.  Wilson said his win against Trump has given him more confidence going into the World ChampionshipGetty “Well done to Kyren and his family, I look forward to the next one. Thank you everyone for coming to support us.” Wilson won his first Players Championship final against a veteran of the competition. Trump has previously won the event twice, last winning in 2019-20. The same season he set the record for the most ranking titles in a season with six. All eyes will be on the World Championship beginning Saturday 19 April. The two are favourites but seven-time winner Ronnie O’Sullivan will be the man to beat. O’Sullivan is not scheduled to return to playing until then, as medical reasons meant he did not qualify for the Players Championship or Tour Championship.
