Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) has revealed Pleos, a new end-to-end software platform that integrates chips and controllers, vehicle operating system, infotainment system, cloud infrastructure, fleet management as well as mobility and logistics solutions.
According to the South Korean company, the name combines the Greek word ‘pleo’, meaning ‘more’, and ‘OS’ for ‘operating system’. Pleos represents the group’s effort to develop software-defined vehicles (SDVs) with smart mobility functions such as autonomous driving, vehicle connectivity, real-time data analysis and optimised route planning.
Future models will incorporate HMG’s vehicle OS that utilises a modular and standardised electrical and electronic (E&E) architecture along with zone-specific controllers. This will allow for continuous updates and functional expansion by decoupling hardware and software developments, while enhancing system performance.
Meanwhile, users will interface with Pleos Connect, which is a next-generation infotainment system based on Android Automotive OS (AAOS). This will feature a smartphone-like user interface with split-view, multi-window functions and the Gleo AI digital assistant.
With a Pleos ID, personalised services can be provided with a single, connected user profile that is accessible in any compatible vehicles. HMG says Pleos Connect will make its debut in Q2 2026, with more than 20 million vehicles set to get the infotainment system by 2030.
Given the openness and scalability of AAOS, developers will be able to prepare apps via the Pleos Playground that are downloadable through an online app market. There will also be plug and play support for direct connection of external hardware to the vehicle without extra settings, which opens up more possibility in terms of vehicle accessory development.
The group also introduced the Next Urban Mobility Alliance (NUMA) that serves to addresses social issues like mobility rights, regional depopulation and the climate crisis with on-demand mobility services, including autonomous vehicles.
