Sitting comfortably in the second spot of the Central division, Dallas needs some outside help to book their ticket to the post-season.
If the Stars beat Seattle in any fashion on Saturday, they would clinch the playoffs with either a St. Louis loss to Colorado or a Calgary loss to Edmonton.
But if Dallas only picked up one point by losing in overtime or a shootout, one of the Blues or Flames would need to lose in regulation.
This would make the Stars the second team in the Central to clinch a playoff birth, following Winnipeg, and the third team in the league after Washington clinched on March 21.
Dallas sits six points behind the Jets and five points up on Colorado. If the standings hold for the remainder of the season, the Stars would host the Avalanche in the first round.
